HTEC Team at Skopje Marathon

Last week, the traditional Wizz Air Skopje Marathon was held for the 17th time in a row. And our Skopje HTEC team was there!

This event is one of the biggest sports events in Skopje, with a unique international character. Each year, people from Macedonia and other countries gather together to run and have fun. This year, due to the pandemic, only people from Macedonia took part in the marathon.

About Skopje Marathon

The first Skopje Marathon was held in 1997 at the initiative of the famous sports professor and coach, Dusan Angelovski. The following year, the marathon was organized by Mihail Panovski with a group of sports workers. After a long break, the marathon was renewed in 2007 at the initiative of Euro Ambassador Erwan Fouere and the then Mayor of Skopje, Trifun Kostovski, and the organization was entrusted to the Sports Union of Skopje.

After the successful organization of the half marathon in 2007, a decision was made to organize a marathon race in the following 2008. From then on, thanks to the organizer’s enthusiasm to promote healthy living and encourage people to take part in it, the event took place each year, which contributed to the increase of the number of participants every year.

Our Skopje HTEC team took this opportunity to show their running skills and team spirit and joined many other enthusiasts. A day full of fun, great energy, happy faces, and loads of smiles! The atmosphere was electric.

We would like to send words of praise to the organizers for starting this initiative and making a huge effort to turn this kind of event into a tradition. Also, we are proud of the solidarity people from Macedonia have shown to take part in this kind of initiative.

We’d also like to congratulate (Aleksandar Nikolovski, who ran 21km) as well as Darko Gjorgjieski, Marko Zdravkovski, Metodi Janev, Alma Cumbelic, Natasha Feskova, and Vasko Drenoski for running the 5km race. Bravo!!

Fun fact: after running a five km track, Alma Cumbelis ran ten more km and became a local sports superstar overnight. 🙂
