For the third year in a row, HTEC is celebrating the International Girls in ICT Day by hosting girls from local technical and grammar schools and introducing them to different positions women today occupy in the ICT industry.
International Girls in ICT Day aims to encourage and empower girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the growing field of information and communication technologies, enabling greater female participation in this sector. It is globally celebrated on every fourth day of the fourth week in the fourth month of the year. Together with GIZ (German Society for International Cooperation) and within their “Professional Orientation in Serbia” project, HTEC joined the movement two years ago and has since hosted dozens of high school and university students. Each year, our female colleagues from engineering, design, HR, finance, and marketing departments shared the stories of their education, first work experiences, career development, and their current responsibilities, as well as what working in an IT company looks like on a day-to-day basis.
The number of women in the ICT sector has been in decline since the 1980s and is an important social topic. With the technology shaping the world around us, we cannot afford to exclude half of the population and the actual 50% of users of tech products and digital services from participating in the development of such solutions. Such topics need to be addressed from an early age, and HTEC is glad to be opening the discussion and the doors to our company to young women who are yet to decide on their careers.
